Text and Readings

There are two texts required for this course: Tom McKnight, Physical Geography: A Landscape Appreciation (8th ed., 2005) (and a WWW site for the text), and Nick Middleton The Global Casino: An Introduction to Environmental Issues (3rd ed., 2003). A few additional readings may be assigned. Exams are based on lecture material and assigned readings. Required readings are noted on the course schedule.

Course Project

A substantial course project is required. Information on the exercises and the course project can be found on the Course Project page.

Computer Skills Required:

Students in Geography 111 will be expected to locate and use a computer with WWW capabilities for the use of these pages and the course project. Please check OWU's WWW site for information on computer labs you can use if you don't have your own computer. Instructor can help with computer skills needed in Geography 111: please ask.

Evaluation

  • 2 exams @ 100 pts. each = 200 pts.
  • Course project @ 200 pts

Other Rules

  • Late Assignments: deduct 15% each day late
  • No make-up presentations allowed
  • No make-up exams will be given
  • Plagiarism will be severely punished
  • Attendance will be taken (via a sign up sheet)
  • Please inform instructor if you are going to miss a lecture or exercise due date.
  • Students who flunk an exam must schedule a meeting with instructor.

Writing Option

  • I do not normally offer a writing option for Geography 111
